HER Description

NEHL - A football ground has been at Denham Terrace since the 19th century adjacent to a cricket ground. Facilities were rudimentary except a small covered cabin to the east of the pitch. The football ground remained until the 30s or 40s, when the site was turned into a recreation ground. It has since become sports pitches again.

It was owned and used by Swan Hunter and their employees, providing rest and relaxation through sport. The facilities were extensive, with bowling greens, tennis courts, a football pitch and the adjacent cricket ground. Swan Hunter purchased the site in 1926.
