New Seaham Albion (1890 - 1904)

HER Description

NEHL - This is the approximate location of the ground of New Seaham Albion, an Association Football team which played here between 1890 and 1904. No definitive ground can be sought, but New Seaham was a relatively small area with a few rows of pit terraces and a large pit. This is one likely location, the other being adjacent to the Colliery Inn on the west of the area. This field has visible small buildings in its proximity, which may have been the clubhouse or related facilities.

New Seaham Albion were the senior team of Seaham Colliery and a founding member of the Wearside League. They won the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup in 1898 though sadly folded not long after.
