Rainton Gate Albion (1893)

HER Description

NEHL - Rainton Gate Albion CC briefly played on this field for a few years in the 1890s. According to contemporary newspaper evidence, they received more success as a local football club (Rainton Gate Albion AFC), playing teams across the region. It's unclear whether football continued to be played in this field, but isn't an unlikely assumption as they retained the name. Either way, Rainton Gate Albion AFC appeared to continue playing until the 1910s.

Thanks to East Rainton CC for the tip off.
