HER Description

NEHL - A cricket and football field appears on maps of the Darlington area in the 2nd half of the 19th century. It is unclear who the field was used by as Feethams and a site near Bank Top hosted the main Darlington teams, so it is likely the site hosted the Grammar School sports teams. On 25 inch 1890s maps, the field appears landscaped though with limited facilities. The boundary of the site slightly changed in the 1910s, becoming more uniform when Abbey Road was constructed adjacent.

The field is still used recreationally.
