Description (or HER record listing)

NEHL - A cluster of 5 coal shafts stood directly north of Deborah Wood, east of the Gaugers Arms, and were disused by the 1850s. These shafts survived in situ until the turn of the 20th century, until they were presumably capped for farmland.

The origin of these shafts is unknown and whether they were connected to a larger colliery. West Auckland Colliery stood around a mile south east.
