Description (or HER record listing)

NEHL - A drift was sunk immediately south of Hedleyhope Burn opposite Cowsley Row, a mining terrace which has since been demolished. Like others in the area, the drift was likely used locally as they could not compete with the larger scale pits. This was one of the mines still in operation in the 20th century - many in the area had already closed off.
