SIlksworth CC (1870s)?, Silksworth Colliery CC (1880s)

HER Description

NEHL - A cricket ground stood adjacent to the Drill Hall and police station on the main road through Silksworth in the 1890s. It was certainly home to Silksworth Colliery CC, a club formed in the 1880s by the workers of the nearby Silksworth Colliery. However there was previous to this a Silksworth CC. They played in the 1870s against such teams as South Hylton.

The ground had a small clubhouse on the south of the field. No other facilities appear on the 1890s maps.
