HER Description
NEHL - A sports ground can be seen on contemporary maps from 1939. By the 1940s, aerial photos show the football ground was still in use as goal posts can be seen. There is a chance it was used by sunday league or amateur football teams in the aream. The ground seemed to have only lasted a couple of decades until redeveloped.
Ordnance Survey, 1947
The sports ground can be seen in the bottom of the aerial shot east of the gas holders and just north of the railway line. Goalposts can be seen. Source: Historic England Photograph: raf_540_a_399_pffo_0244 flown 20/07/1948
