This is the site of coal workings. It was mapped as a spoil heap - though had probable origins as a bell pit. No wagonway links are shown in the early mapping here - though these did reach the top of Walbottle Common area from the banks of the Tyne. This suggests that the workings may have been thought unproductive or be earlier than the 1810s.
